Tiny features

Evah Fan is one of the most quirkiest people I have ever met, but that quirk makes for one hell of an artist.

Seems like she has some new pieces up on her site and she's working on illustrations for a book with Cathy Erway of Not Eating Out in New York. (You should check out her blog too) Can't wait to see the end result.

New Image 15th Anniversary Show

New Image was the first gallery to show my work right out of college and supported me for a long time. I am happy to be a part of its history and to be a part of this 15th anniversary show. I'm excited to be going to L.A. for the show.

The past decade and half of New Image Art has been a wild ride! It has been the greatest honor to be able to work with and know many of our artists and gallery supporters. All the unknowns, underdogs, avant-gurardians, newbies, bad-asses, and geniuses; all of them a part of the very fabric that makes up New Image Art.

The 15 year anniversary party will serve as a retrospective show - a show of shows if you will. Many of our artists over the past 15 years have been asked to contribute in memorializing this event by representing what it is they do best. We are striving to communicate the essence of New Image Art = ultimate creativity, this is everyone's party!!

We will be showing videos and slide presentations and inviting our favorite past musical guests for live performances, dancing, and an all around good time.

Marsea Goldberg, founder and director of LA's New Image Art, started the gallery in 1994 in her 10x10 design studio. Since then, the gallery has grown to attract a global cult following, grabbing the interest of art lovers and collectors worldwide. Renowned for her discriminating eye and solid curatorial skills, New Image Art Gallery continues to show the works of established and emerging artists coming out of the street, skate, fine art, and surf scenes. Over the years, the gallery has launched or mobilized the careers of Shepard Fairey, Ed Templeton, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Rich Jacobs, Rebecca Westcott, Neckface, Cleon Peterson, Megan Whitmarsh, Faile, Tauba Auerbach, Matt Leines, the Date Farmers, and Bäst just to name a few.

Hair of the Dog

This just blew my mind. Melanie Bilenker is an artist who creates these amazingly, intricate pieces with hair set into jewelry. Rings, brooches, pendants, you name it. They're amazing! (found via Gen Art)

Tiny Showcase is a great site where you can buy some really great, affordable, art prints.

Here's some info about them from their website:
"Tiny Showcase was created by Jon Buonaccorsi and Shea'la Finch in November of 2004.

We are lucky enough to be surrounded by a group of friends who are amazing and talented people.

We started thinking that it would be really nice if we could create a forum and community where all of this incredible talent could be showcased. Pricing was an issue - most of our friends aren't exactly rich, so we began exploring a smaller medium where the artist could make some money on smaller pieces of artwork. The art enthusiast, on the other hand, gets to take home their piece of artwork for around the same price as a CD, book or record...

Each week we pick a new piece of tiny artwork and turn the work into a limited-run print production. Each run is printed on archival Hahnemühle German Printmaking Paper. The archival ink is specially treated and sprayed, giving it an archival lifespan of over 60 years.

You sort of need to see the end product to get the full effect, but each piece really is a beautiful specimen.

Beginning in 2005 we introduced a new pricing structure where a percentage of the money from each print sold is donated to a charity chosen by the artist. This raises the print price slightly, but now the artist, as well as their favorite charity, benefit from each piece sold."



Tonight, my print "For every field, there's a mole" will go live at 7:30PM (EST)
My charity for this print is the Susan G. Komen Foundation. My Aunt passed away several years ago from Breast Cancer and its just a bit of an homage to her. To any cancer, there have been so many passings lately that it just feels important to further the research into finding a cure.

"Lima Nights" Book Review-L.A. Times

Over the holidays, I got asked to do a last minute illustration for the L.A. Times book review.
Here is a little bit of the process sketches and the final illustration, the book is "Lima Nights" about a man who has an affair with a professional dancer.

The first round was rejected because it concentrated on the sexuality too much. (I usually do 3 sketches, but I'm using one for a future piece)



They wanted something more with the sexual tension and the tango.
