Moon Rocks!

The boys at National Forest have created a Fall line for Quiksilver, for sure its something to check out. It looks pretty awesome, a lot of crazy dye work and as always far-out graphics!

This Thursday is the launch party at Saturdays NYC.

itching to get in the water...

I daydreamed about this day all winter long, and its finally warm enough... if only the rain clouds will go away. Now that I've watched this trailer, I HAVE to get myself back in the water and on a log...

So completely awesome that this film was made by women and features women...

I really would love an invite to the Brooklyn viewing of this... (hint hint to anyone who could get me one!!! i'd be forever grateful!)

I love wood....

(Not that kind of wood! get your mind out of the gutter)

I love the look of wood and wood grain. So when I saw these surfboards I was immediately drawn to them.

Displacement

One of the first shows that inspired me was at New Image Gallery, when New Image was a small room on the 2nd floor, atop an old T.V. store. Back then, the artist went by Christopher Ruess, he now goes by Alex Kopps (or sometimes emuse) and walking into his installation, I felt like I walked into exactly I wanted art to make me feel. The incorporation of yarn, paintings, sewn art; it was just ideal.

He now makes these beautiful paintings and its been a long time since I've walked into one of his installations but I look forward to the day I can walk through one again. (The lettering he does is pretty rad too)

Now he's coming out with a film, Displacement, and I'm excited to see it. It looks like a great incorporation of his painting aesthetic with the moving image.


They are having a benefit art auction for the film on Saturday, June 28th at the Luggage Store in San Francisco. Seems like it'll be a great show, not only would you be buying great art but you'll be supporting a good cause too.

Surf, Sprout, and Virginia

When I first moved to New York I was really home sick for my life back in LA. Then, my kind friend, Rich Jacobs took me to the premiere of "Sprout," Thomas Campbell's new surf film. Not only was (and am) I a big fan of Thomas Campbell's artwork and photos, but it also introduced me to his filmmaking. It's a beautiful film, take the time to seek it out if you have the chance. Here's a video from VBS.TV about Thomas.



I don't know too much about surfing but I hope to by the end of this summer. Surf lessons are a-waitin'. Alex Knost is showcased as one of the surfers in "Sprout," and even though I don't know too much about surfing I love the way he moves on the board, something so fluid and at ease about it.


And speaking of Thomas Campbell, i'm super excited that I'm in a show with him in Virginia. The show is curated by Cynthia Connolly based on contemporary sewn art. There are a lot of amazing artists in this show. I'll be posting more about these artists before the show, in the meantime here's the link. Ellipse Arts Center
