When I got the new issue of Martha Stewart this month, the Cream Puffs with Lemon Mousse and Blueberry Sauce jumped out at me screaming "MAKE ME and EAT ME!"
So of course, I obliged. I made these as a housewarming gift to some friends (yes, i like to bake for my friends.) Kinda time consuming, with a lot of different components but not too difficult if you have the time. A really refreshing little treat!
Also, I've realized its been a while since I've updated you on my rooftop garden. Truth is, it wasn't doing so well for a while, not enough heat or something... But here it is! Its doing so well, I'm so proud of my little guys.
In this container, arugula, brussel sprouts and cilantro. These were all grown from seeds and did so well. I think I have to transplat my arugula to my community garden, getting a little crowded.
Here, I have roma tomatoes and brandywine tomatoes (bought from the farmer's market). The romas are rapidly flowering.

ROOFtop
This weekend was filled with:
-Getting my plot at the Clifton Community Garden
-Traveling down to Dumbo for Brooklyn Flea and Almondine (see pics below)
If you haven't been to Almondine, you need to go. Chocolate Almond Croissants are like moments of heaven in your mouth.
Also, as we were walking down to the Flea we came across this place: LAND, League Artists Natural Design. According to the Brooklyn Arts Council, LAND "is a unique studio and gallery that features work of adult artists living with disabilities. LAND is designed to help these artists develop their skills in a nurturing enviornment and market their art to the community in a vibrant and inclusive manner."
Looking forward to visiting it when its open. And yes, that card does say "Judas Priest wishes you a happy birthday."
-And on beautiful Sunday, had a lovely brunch with some ladies and built my garden box on my roof top!
I'm planting my seedlings now and hopefully will be transplanting them in the coming weeks!

salvaged and plotted
This weekend, I inaugurated Spring by preparing to build my rooftop garden. Growing your own veggies is all the rage, everyone's doing it including Michelle Obama.
I was first inspired to make my own Salad garden in last year's Readymade Magazine's guide to building your own Backyard Salad Bar. Now is the time to start sowing your seeds!!
After doing my research and being re-inspired after watching this segment on the Martha Stewart Show, this weekend was spent prepping my bed of salad greens. Civil Eats reminded me that there's Build It Green in Queens where I can find reusuable lumber and other miscellaneous materials to build my garden.
Here is what I found there...
reminds me of Yogi the Bear!
strange straw car...
wood!
Follow this blog in the next couple of weeks to view my progress on the garden. Next weekend, I build the bed and sow the seeds!
