A couple weeks ago, I wrote about a little project that I was working on. The cardboard trees, and the cardboard homes... Here's a couple more "behind-the-scenes" photos from what I was working on.

These pieces were inspired by Beirut's new double EP, March of Zapotec. Holland reminds me of the Electric Parade at Disneyland.

Knee deep in yarn

Lion Brand Studio had a President's day Weekend sale, I grabbed the opportunity to buy most of the yarn I needed for my sound installation. Oh the pretty colors!

The August/September issue of Readymade is out! And this is one of the projects I was working on a while back. George McCalman, the art director, was really great to work with and this project was really fun. Here are some work-in-progress shots, different ideas, and the final product.

Its been very slow with the new pieces that I'm working on, but they're revving up and all the little tweaks are usually what slow me down. Here's the latest on the flag that I started a while back....





I don't think I've explained the theme of my new series. All the flags are based off of Nautical Signaling Flags, they are normally used to communicate between ship to ship or ship to shore and so on. Each flag has a different meaning, in and of itself and when combined together. I've chosen to alter the flags colors to be more subtle because these flags are meant represent communication between humans and a lot of the time communication is misread, lost, misunderstood, and so forth. Here's my chart of altered flags.



I also completely forgot to upload the drawing that I have up at Cinders now. Please stop by there when you can, there's a bunch of great drawings up.

Hudson River and honeycomb piecing

2 things:

Item number 1: The Hudson River, and what about the Hudson River you may ask? Well, I'm in a group show benefiting the Hudson River Conservation. A bunch of artists were asked to create art on totes by Open Space Gallery in Beacon, New York. Open Space was opened by the great designers behind Thundercut. Check them out if you have a chance.

The Tote Bag show opens this Saturday in Beacon, NY.

Item number 2 on the agenda...
Honeycomb Piecing, I call it honeycomb piecing because it looks like honeycombs. I think its actually hexagonal piecing, using the english paper piecing method. I've recently been venturing into different methods of applique for my new pieces and its been very exciting teaching myself these new methods. Here are a couple of tutorials I found most helpful, just in case you wanted to get started on your own piecing project.
