All Busted up!

It's funny how things come back around, when I first got out of school my first editorial illustration job was given to me by Laurie Henzel at Bust Magazine. I was so excited when I got that job and hoped for the day that maybe, one day, my art would get featured in the magazine... 5 1/2 years later... here it is!

The nice ladies over at BUST magazine did a feature on the "Thread as the line" Show down in VA. They featured 4 of us artists (Jennifer Boe, Megan Whitmarsh, Anila Rubiko, and myself) in the show, check out this month's issue (btw, 15 year anniversary!!! CONGRATS!) with Amy Sedaris on the cover! I am very, very excited to be a part of their 15th anniversary issue and most importantly to have Bust supporting me from the very beginning.

the call of the wild, the call of a moose.... MOOOOSE

I just got my copy of Moose magazine, a very nice publication out of the Netherlands. Its a really beautiful magazine that features several different artists and they asked me to be a part of it. This issue includes people like Faile, Kime Buzzelli, Andy Jenkins and many others. You can order it off of their website, but I'm not sure where you can get it in the States.

Its been very slow with the new pieces that I'm working on, but they're revving up and all the little tweaks are usually what slow me down. Here's the latest on the flag that I started a while back....





I don't think I've explained the theme of my new series. All the flags are based off of Nautical Signaling Flags, they are normally used to communicate between ship to ship or ship to shore and so on. Each flag has a different meaning, in and of itself and when combined together. I've chosen to alter the flags colors to be more subtle because these flags are meant represent communication between humans and a lot of the time communication is misread, lost, misunderstood, and so forth. Here's my chart of altered flags.

From there we went by Subliminal Projects and saw these beautiful paintings by Louise Bonnet. Each painting is a reinterpretation of a scene from a movie.



The trip was completed with a day at the beach.

For the love of socks!

While my computer uploads photos from Cali, I share with you my love for socks. I don't know why I love them so, but I do. Its an undying love, even if it lies in my drawer ridden with holes. I love argyle, stripey, cashmere, dotted, hearted, and more! The only socks I don't like are the weird toe separating ones, I think those are just weird....

Hot like a Seonna!

Still in Cali, still without a cord for my camera... It's my last day here and its bittersweet, I always can't wait to go back to NY when its time to leave LA but I'm always sad to leave my family and friends behind.

Whenever I come to LA, I always try to make a point to spend time with one of my favorite people in the world and one of my closest friends. She's a busy lady so I always have to wedge my way into her schedule. Seonna Hong (yes, like a "sauna." Seonna never corrects anyone when they mispronounce her name) just came back from Tokyo where she had her solo show at Takashi Murakami's gallery KaiKaiKiKi. From the photos I've seen, the work looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! She is an inspiration in more ways than her art, but I am constantly blown away by every step she progresses in her art.

I saw this work when she first started working on it, but to see it done and installed, its absolutely breath taking. Please take a moment to take it all in.... (if you live in Japan, it is not to be missed. I only wish that it were being shown in NY)
