Cut X Paste

The August/September issue of Readymade is out! And this is one of the projects I was working on a while back. George McCalman, the art director, was really great to work with and this project was really fun. Here are some work-in-progress shots, different ideas, and the final product.

This issue is really great, with an article about the live/work space of the couple behind Something's Hiding in Here.

Some of the different ideas I submitted for the lettering for the cover.

Final product of the cover. I love the photography/styling in this issue and the model! So cute!

Work in progress for the interior feature. Yes, my desk is that messy.

Nylon

One of my prints that I sell with The Shiny Squirrel Boutique got featured in Nylon Magazine this month. (Oh Mischa, Dazed and Confused much?) It's in the "Culture Club" section (p. 137). There's still some prints left and I'm working on a new one for her.

The Great Outdoors

One of the things I want to do in my lifetime is go to Canada and see the Northern Lights. What better way is there than staying in a "state-of-the-art" eco-friendly teepee. Found this via notcot.org. These teepees are fully equipped with wifi, a luxury, personal "outhouse" (that is odorless and organic composting). It looks like a great experience to stay in one of these in the middle of the woods. These teepees are through Perfect Earth Tours.

Rent-a-Bike

When I went to Europe last year, Paris had bikes parked everywhere for you to rent and ride around. Now, NYC is trying to bring the same concept. I hope it works.

Check out New York Bike Share and help support it!

Here's some words from their website:
Imagine walking to a sidewalk corner and finding a public bicycle. With a cellphone call or swipe of a card, you unlock it from its bike rack and ride it across town. Once at your destination, you steer to the closest bike rack and, with one more call or card swipe, return the bike to the public network. You pay less than $.50 for the trip, and the bike is once again available for the taking.

So-called “bike-sharing” already exists in cities across Europe, with Paris alone currently installing over 10,000 bikes at 750 stations. Bike-sharing is revolutionizing transportation networks and greening the urban fabric. Why isn’t it here in New York?

From July 10 through July 14th, The Forum for Urban Design will relaunch last year’s successful Bike-Share Project at four locations:

Storefront for Art and Architecture (97 Kenmare Street at Cleveland Place)
Birdbath Bakery (233 1st Avenue at 14th Street)
City Bakery (3 West 18th Street at Fifth Avenue)
Birdbath Bakery (145 7th Avenue South at Charles Street)

With a photo ID and a credit card (we note your cc number to ensure that the bike is returned), you can take a bike on a spin around the neighborhood or across town.

Procrastination leads to...Inspiration

When I procrastinate, here are the top 4 things I do:
-Play with my dog (or nap with my dog)
-Bake or cook
-Go to the gym
-Look through my plentiful blogs

As I was looking through my bookmarked blogs, I found this via Apartment Therapy. Soon enough, I'm going to have to do some furniture hunting and because of the bed bug infestation in NY I can no longer pick up things on the street. I hope to make it to the Brimfield show Brimfield Antique Market before it's over.
