so long, catch ya later

After thinking about it for a long time, its time to say good bye to my blog. Well, more like, see you later in another life. As some of you have noticed, my personal art website is now almost bare and I guess you can say I'm planning new things. I've far too long neglected making art and doing projects that I really want to be doing and its time to concentrate on that.

I bid you adieu, for now, my fellow bloggers, friends, blog readers and I thank you for taking the time to read my silly blog. I will see you soon, but I hope that you will keep in touch. For now, I'll still have twitter but check my sites for any news.

Thanks again, its been fun!

\\\****///

I've disappeared all over again, I know... but really, for good reason! I'll fill you in on that on another post but in the midst of my busy-ness, I recently stopped by the Pencil Factory while running some errands and went by Studio 515 and snatched up these beautiful business cards!

Jennifer Daniel is an art director/designer/illustrator/fab femme extraordinaire and I love her usage of ASCII.

Roxy, you're rockin' my world

Has anyone else noticed how radical Roxy's line has been? Ever since I fell in love with my Color Bar dress, I'm totally can't get away from their clothes (or their price point!). Too bad summer is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean my wardrobe has to.

Shot to the heart

Apologies for the radio silence on this blog, its been a mighty busy summer. But I'm back and hopefully will regularly blog.

Maybe its a common love for arrows, scouts, troopers, but I'm diggin' the work of this British illustrator-Jack Hudson. Feels like a mix of Maxwell Loren-Holyoke and Chris Neal (congrats btw).

Do me up

Have you seen the new Bust Magazine, you know the one with the undeniably awesome Rashida Jones on the cover? (interviewed by the awesome Lisa Butterworth) Well, flipping through I was inspired to accessorize my hum-drum-hair-in-a-bun summer hair-do (beautifully illustrated by Samantha Hahn). I'm totally into sweeping my hair back into the 40s housewife look (how-to #2) and so it got me looking into some scarves, particularly by Vera Neumann. Its been fun looking, but bad for my wallet...

I KAT stop thinking about you!

Jenny Gordy has always made some pretty awesome clothes, as I've mentioned here before. But this dress, I just can't stop thinking about. Especially in these hot days of summer... grrrr, if only my wallet were as big as my shopping habit. She's having a shop update this Thursday, you guys with money, you better get on that.

Send in the Clowns

I'll be honest with you, clowns kinda freak me out. Something about their freakish in between of a smile and a sad face, its just so. fake? I think that rings true for many people? Allison Schulnik's clowns can make me come around to them. The colors and the textures on her canvas draw me in and even feel for them.

Her beautiful animations are really touching as well, including the music video she did for Grizzly Bear.

If you're in New York, she currently has a show up at Canada and at Lehmann Maupin.

Women's Health-the International way

An illo about an international women’s health conference. My first sketches were pretty cliché, I think. Finally I came up with this one in my last sketch. I’m pretty pleased with how it came out, its fully embroidered so that was fun to use thread as line. Thanks to Catherine Gontarek of the Penn Gazette.

Zapotec Weaving

Back in New York and luckily for me I missed most of the heatwave (knock on wood). I can't wait to share this post with you guys. During my Oaxaca visit, we went to the Santa Ana Valley which is known for their weavings. We were invited, so graciously, into the home of a weaver (one of our hosts happened to be good friends with her) where we were shown how all the weavings are made from start to finish.

Wool is first sheared, then hand-spun, and hand-dyed. Many of the dyes used are natural dyes, made from plants or bugs like cochineals. She told us that everyone in the family must learn how to weave, whether or not they were going to make a career out of it. This pattern on the loom is one of her teenage grandson. I love seeing a tradition being passed on and I hope the art of weaving isn't lost.

Wa Wa-Oaxaca: Part I

Here are some snippets of my trip to Oaxaca. The food, the people, the experience, it was all inspirational. The colors of Mexico in itself are pretty overwhelming, but in the best possible way. I can't wait to share my visit to the Valley of Santa Ana where we went to a weaver's home.

Check NumNum soon for the food adventure post.

A feast in Maine

I recently worked with Heidi Easudes at Arrive Magazine, the on-board mag for Amtrak. (see illos in context here) The article was about the feasts you could have going up and down the Northeast. I must say, it made me quite hungry for lobster, mussels, crab, and MAINE.

Currently I'm updating my illustration website, slowly, so stay tuned.
